Whoopsie Daisy of the Day: The annual Community Fireworks display in the resort town of Oban, Scotland, experienced some minor technical difficulties. Namely, all the fireworks were accidentally set off simultaneously.
Opening Volley and Grand Finale all in one? A real time-saver, if you ask me.
Time-Lapse Thing of the Day: For the first time in nearly a century, Washington’s White Salmon River is flowing unimpeded by the 125’-tall Condit Dam, which was breached by a controlled explosion on October 26th.
It took the reservoir less than 2 hours to be completely drained of its contents.
Online Documentary of the Day: YouTube has finally made its crowd-sourced documentary Life in a Day available for viewing on its website.
The ambitious Ridley Scott-produced, Kevin Macdonald-directed project features 90 minutes of footage whittled down from 4,500 hours sent in by thousands of people who answered the filmmakers’ call to record their lives as it unfolded over the course of single day: July 24, 2010.
The resulting compilation made the rounds on the festival circuit before “finally coming home to YouTube.”
